The hypocrisy of James Dobson, Newt Gingrich, and the Religious Right

James Dobson, who is considered the most politically powerful evangelical figure in the country, supports Newt Gingrich for president. Dobson said that Gingrich was the “brightest guy out there” and “the most articulate politician on the scene today.”
(click on cartoon to enlarge ->)

Dobson, who heads "Focus on the Family" states in the very first sentence of the welcome on their website:

"If there's one word that sums up the essence of Focus on the Family, it is commitment."

Let's remember that Gingrich, the man Dobson supports for President, pressed his wife Jackie for a divorce while she was in the hospital for cancer surgery. According to L.H. Carter, his campaign treasurer, Newt said of Jackie: "She's not young enough or pretty enough to be the wife of the President. And besides, she has cancer."[7] Newt refused to pay alimony or child support.[8] (More on Newt's exemplary family values here).

That's Dobson's definition of family values and commitment? Newt also admitted cheating on his wife while pursuing Bill Clinton on impeachment charges for a sexual affair.

UPDATE:
Gingrich calls foreign language: "the language of living in the ghetto":

"We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto" - Newt Gingrich
Nearly all foreign college students speak English fluently, along with a few other languages. Hmmm... I guess they must be from the ghetto. Funny how these students from the ghetto are academically out performing American students in fields like medicine, engineering, and computer science.

You guys can still not understand that the impeachment was about lying under oath, not the actual affair - just to clear that comment up.

Now, Newt has obviously made some mistakes, but how can one correct these mistakes? Simply admitting to them and trying to change. I don't know if Gingrich really has changed or not, but Dobson is clearly believing he has and thinks his politics are better for the country and more in line with his beliefs.

Craig,
How does lying about sex to a jury compare to lying to the American people about reasons war? Clinton lied, no one died. Bush lied, tens of thousands of innocent people dead, a weakened American military, a half trillion spent and no end in sight. How can anyone even talk about Clinton's lie in the same breath as Bush's lies?

Google: Bush lies - Over 15 million hits and growing.

That's a nice tactic - completely change the subject of the argument. I simply pointed out an error in your statement and talked about Gingrich, which your post was about.

So, it's the "lying under oath" thing? Is that why the White House wants to keep staff from testifying "under oath"? Amazingly, a REAL "mandate"-sized slice of AMERICA wonders... 70% say "investigate these punks."

Hey, you guys aren't upset about warrantless wiretapping, right? So, if Rove's been wiretapped, that's admissible in a court of law, yes?

Ah yes, and I thought Republicans were supposed to be the Moralist and Judgmental Party.

Oh, and can you please inform us what the "lie" was about Iraq?

Here's just 10 of a hundred...

LIE #1: "The evidence indicates that Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program ... Iraq has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes and other equipment needed for gas centrifuges, which are used to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons." -- President Bush, Oct. 7, 2002, in Cincinnati.

LIE #2: "Yes, we found a biological laboratory in Iraq which the UN prohibited." -- President Bush in remarks in Poland, published internationally June 1, 2003.

LIE #3: "We believe [Saddam] has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons." -- Vice President Cheneyjavascript:void(0)
Publish Your Comment on March 16, 2003 on "Meet the Press."

LIE #4: "[The CIA possesses] solid reporting of senior-level contacts between Iraq and al-Qaeda going back a decade." -- CIA Director George Tenet in a written statement released Oct. 7, 2002 and echoed in that evening's speech by President Bush.

LIE #5: "We've learned that Iraq has trained al-Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and deadly gases ... Alliance with terrorists could allow the Iraqi regime to attack America without leaving any fingerprints." -- President Bush, Oct. 7.

LIE #6: "We have also discovered through intelligence that Iraq has a growing fleet of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to disperse chemical or biological weapons across broad areas. We are concerned that Iraq is exploring ways of using these UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles] for missions targeting the United States." -- President Bush, Oct. 7.

LIE #7: "We have seen intelligence over many months that they have chemical and biological weapons, and that they have dispersed them and that they're weaponized and that, in one case at least, the command and control arrangements have been established." -- President Bush, Feb. 8, 2003, in a national radio address.

LIE #8: "Our conservative estimate is that Iraq today has a stockpile of between 100 and 500 tons of chemical weapons agent. That is enough to fill 16,000 battlefield rockets." -- Secretary of State Colin Powell, Feb. 5 2003, in remarks to the UN Security Council.

LIE #9: "We know where [Iraq's WMD] are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south, and north somewhat." -- Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, March 30, 2003, in statements to the press.

LIE #10: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." -- President Bush, Jan.28, 2003, in the State of the Union address

Dang, it's quiet enough to hear a pin drop. What happened? Did truth win out?

Gingrich probably used the wrong word by saying "ghetto." However, that does not change the truth in what he says. Those who are not fluent in English will not be successful in this country.

God, this gets monotonous:

LIE #1: "The evidence indicates that Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program
[There was evidence, based on testimony and satellite footage.]

LIE #2: "Yes, we found a biological laboratory in Iraq which the UN prohibited."
[Again. based on testimony and satellite footage]

LIE #3: "We believe [Saddam] has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons." [First, covered by "we believe", second, based on testimony]

LIE #4: "[The CIA possesses] solid reporting of senior-level contacts between Iraq and al-Qaeda going back a decade."
[There was contact. That's all this says]

LIE #5: "We've learned that Iraq has trained al-Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and deadly gases ... Alliance with terrorists could allow the Iraqi regime to attack America without leaving any fingerprints."
[Based on testimony]

LIE #6: "We have also discovered through intelligence that Iraq has a growing fleet of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to disperse chemical or biological weapons across broad areas. We are concerned that Iraq is exploring ways of using these UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles] for missions targeting the United States."
[There were small UAVs. Granted they were basically model airplanes, but that's enough to carry a bio agent]

LIE #7: "We have seen intelligence over many months that they have chemical and biological weapons, and that they have dispersed them and that they're weaponized and that, in one case at least, the command and control arrangements have been established." --
[They DID see intelligence, as the first sentence qualifies]

LIE #8: "Our conservative estimate is that Iraq today has a stockpile of between 100 and 500 tons of chemical weapons agent. That is enough to fill 16,000 battlefield rockets."
[Our estimate]

LIE #9: "We know where [Iraq's WMD] are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south, and north somewhat."
[Based on satellite imagery and testimony, including some great footage of the convoys going into Syria just prior to the invasion]

LIE #10: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." -
[The British government provided the report]

You can complain all day about bad intelligence. The intelligence game is a guess in the best conditions. That doesn't constitute a lie.

And for the record, Clinton definitely lied, and he did it to prevent a woman from seeking recourse in a court of law, over a sexual assault, by him, against her.

Newt Gingrich as 'paragon of virtue' was also involved with and had input to the Bush-Admin "Office of Special Plans" in the Pentagon, that fabricated WMD evidence used to convince Congress, US-Citizens, and the UN that Iraq had to be immediately pre-emptively attacked.
The "OSP" weapons evidence turned out to be as empty as Newt Gingriches 'paragon of virtue'.
